ABOUT THE BAND:
Calico Jack are an explosive new band from London. They play a catchy and aggressive brand of funk rock, with a lineup consisting of bassist and vocalist Will Lord, guitarist Kyle DM and drummer Luke Piper. While working as a professional jazz trio, the three-piece decided that they needed to inject some fierce rock and danceable grooves into their lives, releasing two EPs and a music video in 2017.
Calico Jack formed last year and have gained a dedicated following since through their energetic, unpredictable live shows featuring extensive crowd interaction, surprise covers and special guests. They have supported The Dreadnoughts at The Underworld in Camden, sold 100s of tickets across legendary venues like The Garage, Islington and are headlined Camden Assembly (formerly the Barfly) in December 2017.
Named after the famous pirate, Calico Jack evolved through their shared love of classic rock, jazz and funk. They developed a unique musical style and can boast influences such as The Who, Funkadelic, David Bowie, James Brown & DJ Khaled. Their funky tunes will make you think, and make you drink, and dance all night long.
Live performance is an integral part of the band’s sound, and at a Calico Jack show, you should expect the unexpected, such as special guests, costumes and surprise covers. Possibly all at once.
P.S. It should be noted that the band have no integrity and will gladly be hired to play anything from smooth jazz to Luke’s favourite, ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ by Van Morrison.
